'MUA Ultra-Fine Loose Setting Powder' - Review
Hello Readers,
I always mention how I like to powder down my face once I have completed my base, to make my skin nice and matte. I get asked loads of questions in regards to what powders I use and what ones are the best. In today's review its going to be about the 'MUA Ultra-Fine Loose Setting Powder'. This was one of my first setting powders that I brought and that I use on almost a daily basis. Let's get into the review.
This powder has 18g of product and is from the brand MUA - Make-Up Academy. Both cruelty free and vegan friendly. This retails at £4 which is very affordable.
This is one of the first setting powders I picked up randomly in my local drugstore. I was having a friend over and she wanted me to do her make-up (when I first became a make-up artist), and I remember watching loads of tutorials online for how to give someone a flawless base. I noticed that they would use setting powder or sometimes mentioned as finishing powder. So I knew this was going to be something on my list I needed to buy. I came across the MUA section as they were cheap and looked very good quality. I picked up this powder randomly, and surprisingly I haven't stopped using it.
You get quite a lot of product for the price. As previously mentioned £4 for 18g. It is very soft and light on the face. You don't need too much of it as it can matte down the face quickly, and can look cakey if too much is applied.
It does help to keep make-up lasting longer. It also helps to reduce your base looking oily / shiny.
It says that it is a translucent powder and suitable for all skin tones. If I am honest, is it translucent? Not really. It is white and if it is not blended very well, it can leave traces of where it has been placed. With taking photos, it does flash back which as mentioned leave white marks and can make the face looking very pale and ghost like.
It is subtitle for all skin tones? Again my answer would be no. For medium to deep skin it can be very white on the face, and make you come across very grey and pale. But for medium to deep skin, you can always use banana powder.
As it is very finely milled, it can tend to go everywhere. So you will get quite a cloud of powder flying around. This brings me to my next point of the smell. It does have quite a strong smell. I would advice trying not to breathe it in. Also try and avoid getting it into your eyes. This can be quite irritating.
I do use this powder quite a lot, mainly for going over my concealer under my eyes, or to even carve out my jaw line. There have been a few times where the powder doesn't blend with some liquid foundations, so it is best to use either a very matte foundation or even a foundation stick. I also use this product, (which is what I have been doing a lot lately) to set down my brows once I use a pomade. This is to just give them more of a natural finish and make sure that my pomade doesn't smudge or come off. This also works well placing on top of my concealer once I have carved out and cleaned mistakes on my brows. This is a very good and diverse setting powder.
I also use this powder a lot for when I do peoples make-up. It is always in my make-up container. I feel like it is a very well rounded product which does the job. It also leaves my clients skin feeling very soft. I have had many clients say they like the feel of their face after as it give quite a skin like feel. They also say they feel their make-up lasts longer, which is definitely a bonus.
My negatives are that, it is not suited to all skin tones, it contains quite a strong flash back (but this can't be helped as its just want most powders do), and the smell is very strong.

With the packaging, it is very basic. By that I mean like a normal plastic container that all powders come in. I wouldn't recommend dropping the product (as I did once before by accident) as it can break the clear plastic.

My final thoughts are, which is what I say for most of my blogs is I would recommend this product to people that are starting out and want to try to experiment with powder. The price is very affordable, so it is completely worth a try.
