'MUA Skin Define Matte Perfect Foundation' - Review

Hello Readers,

While I was sorting out my make-up this week, working out what my next blog should be about, I came across this foundation. The 'MUA Skin Define Matte Perfect Foundation'. This was one of my first ever foundations that I brought when I was starting my make-up kit (Don't worry, I have brought new ones since!)

I managed to pick this up in my local drug store at a very affordable price. Looking on the MUA (which stands for Make-UP Academy) website, the price still has not changed. It comes to a total of £4. Personally again for the price what a bargain! Especially for a liquid foundation. With this foundation you get 32ml of product. It is also cruelty free.

Now, the foundation claims, "a soft and smooth foundation formulated with vitamins A, E & jojoba to create the perfect flawless matte complexion. Shine control that lasts all day".

"A soft and smooth foundation". This, I could not agree more with. The formula of this liquid foundation is so soft, so light weight, you hardly notice it on your face. It doesn't feel thick or cakey.

"Create the perfect flawless matte complexion". Okay... with this one I'm on the fence with. Applying with a brush or dry Beauty Blender / make-up sponge it works fine, it dries matte, and it has good coverage. But applying with a damp application , it makes it look very shiny. So it's kind of 50/50. However, I was impressed how long lasting was on both oily and dry skin, as I have used this on myself as well as some of my clients.

Onto the shade range. This I was quite disappointed in. Looking on their website, their shade range is pretty poor. It only has 6 shades. This does make it very hard for all the skin types out there to find which shade would be best on them. For me, I use the shade 'Natural Ivory'. I do feel that this has a slight yellow undertone, but once added with a concealer I can make it work. I have noticed on their website that they do have an 'Ivory Flush', so I will pick this one up and give it a go.

The shade range consists of:
Ivory (being the fairest), Ivory Flush, Natural Ivory, Natural Beige, Beige and Deep Fawn (being the "darkest shade").

There is no indication on the coverage of this foundation. From my own experience on using it, I would say it all depends on the application. If you are wanting it to be matte, I would use either a brush or a dry Beauty Blender / make-up sponge. This will give you quite a medium coverage, as well as an air brush look to the skin. You can also apply a powder to intensify the matte look. If you are looking for more of a demi-matte / healthy glow then I would use a damp Beauty Blender / make-up sponge. The coverage with damp application, I would say it is light to medium.

For me personally, I do like this foundation. I feel like it does the job very well. I also like the MUA brand. They have a lot of affordable and worth the money products, (which I will be blogging more about). The foundation for me, feels very light weight, the coverage is okay... I would have preferred a bit more medium to full, but again that comes down to personal preference. Its super cheap, and feels good on the skin. It has quite a lot of vitamins, which helps not to bring me out in spots, as well as keeping my face healthy.

My only negative would be to expand on the shade range. 6 shades are just not enough for the amount of skin tones out in the world.

I would recommend this foundation. I feel like for the price, it is worth the money. It's £4. You get quite a lot of product, the coverage is good, it contains a health formula and is easy to apply as well as blend out. It's easy to travel with. It gives you a very natural finish and works well in photos.
